Priests can't marry

Clerical celibacy in the Latin Rite is a discipline, not a dogma. It is based on the example of Jesus Himself and the counsel of St. Paul, who wrote that "an unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs—how he can please the Lord" (1 Corinthians 7:32).

Celibacy allows the priest to give himself entirely to his flock, his spiritual family, without the competing demands of a biological family. It is a sign of the life to come, where "they neither marry nor are given in marriage" (Matthew 22:30).
